Don't know whether to smugly laugh or feel terrified at this collection of news reports and army propaganda films from the 40s and 50s in relation to American obsession with "winning" a nuclear arms race and downplaying the effects of radiation for Mr and Mrs Average American

    The Rise of the Synths

    ★½

This film was a huge disappointment. There seemed to be no point to it other than to say that synth composers and lovers are outsiders. This was a huge arse kiss to John Carpenter - he had no real reason in being here other than the multitude of talking heads saying how cool he was.

The film LOOKS beautiful, but this is the definition of style over substance.

    The Incident

    ★★★★½

This film is still absolutely brutal over 50 years since it was made. I'm sure Michael Haneke was influenced by this when making Funny Games.

Two thugs (Tony Musnate and Martin Sheen) terrorise a late night train carriage of people. However, being an ensemble piece we already have an insight into each of the people in the carriage. Everyone has their backstory, so when the cowardly thugs start pushing them around, they are more catalysts into the passengers' behaviour.
