longwinded tangents are my core personality trait
and sharing movie thoughts with my partner is fun :)
A bit of Amelie crossed with a bit of Moonrise Kingdom, because it’s visually charming and the narration is quirky, and it’s all about chances of connection and what it means to be human
Edit: oh shit I just realized as it ended that the premise is also kind of Before Sunrise
I think documentaries have the ability to combine both artistry and reporting. A good artist inspires people to think. A good reporter provides a well researched and nuanced collection of facts. A good documentary should give us an in-depth understanding of a topic, in a way that provokes our thoughts and inspires something within us.
I cannot in good faith recommend a documentary about black market sperm donation when the issue of over-donation isn’t properly addressed. And I can’t even say the artistry is good, given it was mostly just slow shots on mothers’ faces and sad piano music.
