Many striking frames. Deliberately paced with a steady, balanced tone. Production design on point. Loved the score, which skillfully dips into horror/thriller territory -- which is interesting given that this is a straight-drama, but it pulls it off. Great peek behind the curtain into a world I knew nothing about. Whether it is accurate or not, it felt authentic while watching and that's all that matters for a work of fiction.
Loved it. Often films that are this episodic are not my jam. What makes it work is that the focus is on Shikishima's character arc. Every new jump forward immediately dug into where he was on his internal journey. It's also refreshing to see a monster movie that shows the complete monster head-to-toe in the opening sequence. No teases and gradual reveals. (Though, I suppose, everyone in the world already knows what Godzilla looks like so there was not much to "reveal".) The third act was well constructed with plans, failings, and pivots—all of which needed to happen in order to prevail.
My wife, Lane Skye, and I wrote and directed this film. Hope you like it!
