Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom 1975
The Nazis did very real, very evil things. This 'movie' is not about about those atrocities.
Almost cartoonish in it's excessiveness, Salò adapts a story already infamous for it's depravity. There is no art behind such work.
I have no clue as to Pasolini's intentions. Maybe he truly believed he was showcasing the pure evil of Italy's real life facists, many of whom still lived at the time of filming.

It was never gonna work.
Memories of murder is a name that made me think of flashbacks. That tired trope of a story narrated after its conclusion. I was wrong.
The title is what it is because that's all the murders are. Memories. Memories of failure, memories of grief, memories of things preferably not remembered.
