Beautifully bleak.
Every element of this film came together so perfectly. The way they speak, the lighting, the pacing, the depiction of desperation and madness revealing itself in different ways in each person.
(I thought I had gotten past my fear of sleeping in the woods at night but this brought it all back. I’ll need to forget this movie before I go camping again.)
I went into this thinking I wasn’t going to enjoy it, but was surprised by how entertaining it was. Filled with scenes that delighted me alongside quiet scenes that reflected current issues I’m sure many of us are grappling with. I admire the depiction of Lawrence - of his anxieties and desire to live authentically while trying to do the best he can for the betterment of the Church. While the ending doesn’t feel all that realistic, it was a satisfying and inspiring conclusion.
