Certainty is the great enemy of unity.
Pulsing with intrigue, claustrophobic religious intrigue, and Ralph Fiennes willing the entire thing together. I liked the score but thought it could’ve done more. Thought the story and ending were brilliant. Also the vaping cardinal was awesome
I thought this movie had very solid comedy, fun direction and memorable scenes, and Gosling and Crowe were amazing together. But the comedy didn’t hit every time and it was as though this movie’s mystery was sometimes at odds with the comedy. The story is fun and the anti capitalist message rocks, but this isn’t quite a great movie. Still had fun!
This is the only Apes film I’d seen before but it’s been years. This movie is still quite good and lays the groundwork for the trilogy effectively. The human stuff got to be a little predictable and that contributed to a slower first (and kinda second) act. The third act is still awesome and action packed, and the “NO” moment kicks ass. The emotions with Caesar are particularly palpable (and awesome) because there’s very little with the other characters. Pretty solid overall.
