The Brutalist 2024
Painfully long. What started out as a piece of social criticism turned into an obsessive self-disclosure of trauma. Perhaps that is the danger of this sort of immanent critique of a culture, that is, a system reflecting upon itself for its own failings. The vanishing of an objective standpoint in the recent A24 productions has rendered any serious attempts at self-reflection ultimately a spectacle of cultural psychodrama.
