Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is strikingly different from its predecessors in the franchise, which definitely makes it unique, however for me I prefer the original four films. I think the final act itself is quite slow paced, but then the final “showdown” as such, between Snow and Lucy Gray, seems to skip past very quickly, too quickly. Saltburn is one of the most bizarre films I’ve ever seen, it’s truly disturbing, but that works in its favour. Some of the scenes are completely unhinged, but they are there to showcase who Oliver truly is. The cinematography is really impressive and the use of the 1.33:1 aspect ratio gives the film a unique vibe. The score is also really impressive, having classic songs that everybody loves. The black comedy nature of the film also is a huge positive, there’s lots of funny moments throughout the film.
Jennifers Body is a fun film to watch, however I feel it doesn’t lean enough into the horror and comedy elements to class itself as either of those. There’s definitely moments of horror and comedy, but I felt it was trying to juggle both genres at the same time. Significant part of the film is just sexualising Megan Fox, which okay fair, but could they have developed the character more than just being sex on legs? I don’t know. Fun film anyway.
Halloween’s cultural impact on the modern horror film cannot be undermined, I felt that the film was very suspenseful, and reasonably scary for a film created in the 1970’s. The soundtrack is obviously iconic, it’s instantly recognisable and keeps you on your toes. However having said that, I find the film incredibly frustrating. I understand that the decisions made are for the plot of the film to continue, but I just feel there were better ways of executing it than…
