Blonde 2022
There is definitely a movie to be made about objectification and victimization of women in Hollywood, especially that of an icon. This is the least intelligent way to do it. The movie’s treatment of Monroe would feel like total apathy if the director’s comments surrounding the film didn’t make it feel more like disdain. Also, if he was attempting to incorporate horror aesthetics and themes into his biopic, someone should have told him that good horror movies have character development alongside the misery and terror so it doesn’t turn into a trauma clipshow.

The Devil's Advocate 1997
This movie is unspeakably fun. It has no sense of moderation whatsoever, which is why 40% of the dialogue is screamed by Al Pacino in minute-long chunks and another 40% is Keanu Reeves doing a southern accent. It is better than any movie should fairly be, and it feels like cheating that it exists. I love this movie with every ounce of my being.

Perfectly designed movie. Every frame is a soothing minimalist work of art thanks to Michael Mann’s scene composition. All excess has been trimmed away to shine as direct a light as possible on the performances and themes. Everything from the subdued, atmospheric score to the chilly, unobtrusive color scheme make for a captivating and rewatchable experience. Few directors possess the environmental storytelling and pacing ability of Michael Mann.
