The acting performances were great, but I think it might have been better as a documentary—I’m not sure there’s enough meaningful conflict for the narrative drama format to work.
Overall, though, enjoyed it. Worth watching for Colman Domingo alone.
This was soooo Wes Anderson. Maybe his best looking film ever? Initially wasn’t sure about the “play within a show within a movie” premise but the plot was surprisingly emotional. Cast (especially Schwartzman) was great. I think this reaches the level of movies like The Royal Tenenbaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel — it’s one of his best.
