Capote 2005
i went down a truman capote rabbit hole today (i can’t remember what started it) so i’m glad i watched this movie today. this was a really beautifully written story about the complications of melding your subject and muse into one.
philip seymour hoffman was legendary of course, capturing the nuances of a man who’s only purpose is to tell a story so captivating that no one can look away from him. in cold blood has been sitting on my shelf for maybe a decade, and i feel like i finally understand why it had the impact it did, so i’m interested to read it now!!

Presence 2024
i did think that the POV element would be gimmicky or boring, but i actually felt the opposite. i could probably write an essay about this perspective on haunting, grief, loss, presence, observation, being seen, being forgotten…i could go on and on. this one may not be for everyone as it really strikes the emotional chord the hardest rather than the typical ghost “treatment” so to speak, so i would go in expecting a family drama/grief story than a scary movie. lucy liu’s performance was so precise, so well executed, that it turned my positive experience seeing this movie into an unforgettable one.
