Watching Man with a Movie Camera is like taking a tour through a time machine. It's very much of the time, and yet it is timeless. No plot, and yet it tells thousands of stories. The man with the camera, Dziga Vertov, is visible at times throughout the movie and we can see just how big and bulky his camera is. And yet, the people in the film rarely comment on its existence, which is a huge blessing to us.…
Short, but an interesting slice of 1970s India. Google is unclear whether this was released in 1975 or 1972 (I'm assuming the latter is the initial release). This is an India on the brink of something new, before the late 80s when the government began to liberalize the economy, pursuing privatization, and becoming much more focused on capitalist expansions. This snippet of India's youth culture seems so far away from the India many know and see today.
