Sat next to a lady in her 60s who was seeing this for the first time, and by the end of the film, we were both teary-eyed and smiling. God I love cinema and seeing it with strangers.
4K restoration 40th anniversary screening.

Let's cut to the chase if you couldn't work out what that synopsis was actually trying to say! It's basically the Nativity story where we see a young couple tiredly walking through the Californian desert (cf. Gerry) and eventually taking refuge at the back of a motel. Meanwhile three young men in a car are travelling and they eventually meet up to witness the appearance of a baby boy.
At 5 minutes, it's way too short to be satisfying, and only suggests an exercise in mood and style which she does so effectively.

Minding the Gap 2018

Not really a skate documentary but a rich and honest film about friendship among a group of very likeable young men growing up in a rust belt town in Chicago where we soon discover they are all trying to deal with some form of childhood trauma - including the filmmaker, Bing - who isn't just behind the camera documenting but also a subject.
This hit way too close to home for me as I too skated and filmed…
