Rewatched this today after rewatching Blow Out last night. At one time, I thought of Blow-Up as my favorite film of all time, and then for whatever reason, it fell out of my internal conversation. And it really shouldn't have, as it's a brilliant film all the way through — my favorite Antonioni movie, my favorite "'60s film" (in the way that a film from that decade can sometimes be a part of a genre based on nothing but the…

How many times am I going to watch this in 2024? This is at least my third (?) time logging it this year, maybe I'll do a couple more? I've previously watched it on Disney+, I think, watched a VHS copy of the 1997 Special Editions at the in-laws, and now... have finally seen it on the big screen again, for the first time since 1997.

We recently discovered it was going to be playing at the historic Byrd Theatre

[This is number 4 in my 2025 "Theatrical Lynch" list — I'm trying to see as many Lynch films in the theater this year as I can. Hoping I can make it to at least 5-6 before the year is out.]

Happy to finally see this on the big screen again, my third time doing so. I first saw it in 1990 on the "big" screen at the tiny Princess Theatre in Oxford, Ohio — a now-defunct little four-theater cineplex…

[I’m trying to complete the Criterion Challenge 2025, all first watches, completed in the order of the challenge but not necessarily one per week. This is 9th out of a total of 52].

The 9th week is a nice and broad category — any movie in the Criterion Collection from the 1930s. And I have a ton of them on the shelf that I still haven't watched. Pulled this one as, well, I always love William Powell and actual "screwball…

RIP Paul Reubens. We had already been planning to watch something out on the deck on the outdoor screen today, but when I learned mid-day (from his Instagram account, which I follow) that Paul had passed away last night, I knew we had to revisit this. And we did.

It was not that long ago (4th of July, 2022!) that I rewatched this for the first time in a very, very long time. In high school, the clique of friends…

Really good! I had a few hours to kill today and fired it up off of someone's Plex account, and was pleasantly surprised throughout. I'd heard it had a very mixed reception on release but it feels, largely, like a movie made a few decades too early. O'Neal is fantastic, Adjani is good, and I even like Dern (who I think gets the most panned for being miscast here).

The acting isn't really the centerpiece, though, it's the car chases…
