  Hypnotic masterpiece of the highest level. Visually, I had high expectations, but I'm glad the content didn't disappoint either. Slightly modernized, much more 'Jagno-centric' story, while remaining faithful to the Reymont's novel. The pain, sadness, and anger arising from the events, all while being enthralled by the incredible form, the beauty of folklore, and the wonderful dance scenes.

  Having watched numerous stupid movies that romanticise the war (I am looking at you Warsaw 44 and the kissing between the bullets scene), I was glad to finally watch something that shows how the real war looks: brutal, exhausting and pointless.
