Beautiful film, but absolutely a bit gratuitous at times. Emma and Adele don’t exactly have much chemistry outside of their sex scenes and I almost feel like the messaging of the film perverts lesbian love in a way that I’m not sure was intended. I just wanted there to be a bit more substance to their relationship. Also, the last hour pissed me tf off. These characters just make some stupid ass decisions for absolutely no reason.

I do think the length and slow pacing work well to support the theme of self-discovery.

Hell yeah. Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Some of the high points for me were the production overall (but especially the well-timed cinematography and score for a film that doesn’t quite need those to be effective) and Alan Arkin’s role (more than earned supporting actor nom!). Would love to watch more of his stuff.

Films based on true events often lack substance in the character writing and the figurative “cute little bow” on top that wraps the story into something perfectly…

That was fun. I really enjoyed the screenplay.

Anna Kendrick being in this film was the most random thing.

The ambiguous political undertones in this film really do it for me. I’d love to watch this one again and pick it apart more, as I was pretty tired while watching. I didn’t have high expectations for the ending, and I think it stuck the landing pretty well all things considered.
