    Dogtooth

    ★★★

Dogtooth is a movie that deals with a wide range of issues below the surface of a conservative, extremely over-protective father. His oppressive role not only manages to alienate his (adult) children and his wife from the rest of the world, but also to create an alternate universe within the household where going off the limits of the house is unthinkable. Everything takes a turn when the daughters start exploring their suppressed sexuality in a rather innocent yet twisted way.
Dogtooth winks at the denial of female pleasure and the terrible consequences of wanting to keep your kids under control for too long.

    The Beasts

    ★★★★½

The film is a tragic depiction of the fatal consequences pride, rivalry and envy can bring upon the lives of not only the men directly involved in conflict, but also the women who have no choice but to clean up after their mess and live with whatever is left for them.
“The Beasts” portrays accurately the depth of the protagonists’ love for each other, but also the family issues that they keep trying to ignore. It’s easy to empathize with…

    Vesper

    ★★★

The art and special effects in this movie are astonishingly beautiful; it’s been a while since i last watched a movie with such realistic, detailed imagery. It depicts a dystopian-futuristic-society with access to sci-fi biotechnology. It also surrounds more abstract concepts such as classism and poverty. All in all an interesting film to watch, and a fairly well-conveyed message behind it.
