City of God is otherworldly. It expanded what we as filmmakers and film appreciators knew about movies as a storytelling medium. I was far too young when I first saw it at 10 years old, but even then I was aware I was watching a masterpiece. The tale of the kids from the neighborhood growing up and their lives intertwining again and again with the stakes seemingly elevating each time keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. City of God is a cinematic classic.
One of those movies that leaves you baffled, Parasite is a masterpiece in storytelling, and leaves behind a profound message. During the course of this thrilling story, Bong Joon-ho tackles the social class divide in South Korea, and around the world, while showcasing the complexity of human nature in his characters and the plot. This is must watch for anyone that considers themself a film buff.
