I love this movie as a kid and honestly thought it was going to be pretty bad on the rewatch but I was wrong. It's not the best film but it's actually pretty hilarious, sweet and fun. I love how the kid and his adopted dad both have attitude problems and need to soften up. It feels realistic that nobody knows how to talk to one another.
Lori Petty is delightful and the mean guy is that mean guy from every 10th movie. I will watch this again and again.
As a huge Jenny Lewis fan, it's shocking that this is my first timing viewing any of her movies. She did not disappoint. The premise is complicated, the physical comedy is very 1989 and the kids are SO SASSY. I loved every minute of it.
I hadn't watched this one in over 20 years and it did not disappoint. It was honestly funnier than I thought it would be. I don't care what anyone says, Pauly Shore movies will always bring me joy. Also I would wear 100% of Stoney's clothes. He's the moral compass and true heart of the film. Sean Astin is actually a complete dick until the last 5 minutes but at least he learns his lesson.
