i had mixed feelings about this movie when i finished it, i LOVED the themes and the visuals and of course Daijin. but Souta felt so random tbh and for me drew away from the storytelling around grief. then I learnt that Makoto Shinkai didn't want there to be a male love interest and wanted the movie to be a girls roadtrip film with sapphic undertones and this movie made way more sense. it would definitely be a 10/10 for me if that was the case, but still like a solid 8/10 :)
