This movie lacked a lot of the things I love about Wes Anderson. Where many of his previous movies (The Grand…, Darjeeling…, Moonrise…) told stories that were deeply sad yet beautiful, Astroid City felt flat and thrown together haphazardly.
A perfect addition to the first film. The animation was incredible, the story was powerful and well thought out, and spider-punk stole the show and brought in meaningful and subtle themes of antiestablishment (best side-character in this one).
This movie is reminiscent of movies like Never Let Me Go, or Her. It’s science fiction that isn’t concerned with action, the tension is more human led, and the theme and meaning derived from the film are given through a well thought out story, not cheesy exposition. Easily one of my all time favorites.
