What a shitshow. Todd Philips might have had a creative vision behind what he wanted to show, but you can’t build up such a brilliant character only to shoot him down in the sequel. Thankfully, I could skip the song and dance routines while watching this at home.
In this age of coronavirus and the need to self quarantine and communicate over the phone and video calls, this brings a really interesting concept forward. 6 friends catching up over a Zoom call, while holding a seance (bad idea, for sure), inadvertently call upon a spirit which then haunts each of the participants. Decent scares and good showcase of the features of the Zoom app. And it’s barely an hour long movie, so it fits perfectly within the time limit for a meeting, imposed by Zoom :)
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Just because the movie has stunning visuals, just because the movie has some A-list actors, does not mean it’s a good movie. Maybe Brad Pitt can carry this movie alone, cos Tommy Lee Jones sure had nothing great to contribute to this movie. The way it was presented to the audience, I failed to feel anything for the main character; the reunion with this father had zero emotional weight for me. I kept waiting for this movie to be over, sooner.
