  this gave high fidelity, good burger & girlfriends—and the culture needs more female 20-something anything. automatically wanted to rewatch as soon as it ended. snaps for sza's acting debut 🩶

  one of my best friends, who went to film school & earned the right to say this, told me this was meant to be in the style of french new wave cinema. aside from it being in black & white, having a jazz-like pace, and "artful" zooms, nothing about the plot was as existential or subversive as the genre it's trying to be is. 
  every character was also just unbearable. like a bad film school project. still love you tho, greta xo

  it's rare to see a story develop after it culminates in a family tragedy. waves gives redemption in a real way, and lets you relish in it without taking away from the also-very-real pain it sets up in the first half. so achingly good.
