The predictable plot and heavy-handed symbolism pretty much drained the horror out of this one for me. Cool concept with poor pacing and not enough puppets (imo).
While some films explore self-discovery in a fun & inspiring way, this does the exact opposite. What if you never get a chance to know who you really are?
Is it made for those who will relate to the character(s)? Who can tap into that unsaid telepathy and knowing — from lived experience? Absolutely. But whether or not you relate, or “get it”, the confusion, shame, self-denial, self-rejection, and pain are immersive. It’s very much not subtext. Incredibly hard to stomach, but this is not unintended.
