Even despite the heavy-handed parallels to spouse-abuse and controlling relationships, this was a weak ass film. The same idea over and over again for the entire runtime and never saying anything more interesting than the first time it said it.
Also why did the reveal she was a robot feel like it was supposed to be a twist? The first 20 mins is filled with puns and double entendres that I imagine were meant to be looked back at as…
A good film that’s unable to get out of its own way.
It’s very rare to see a ‘swords and sandals’ epic nowadays, but I’m glad we got this. My only issue is that (as with many films of the last 3 years), they’re stuck in nostalgia-bait. Can’t possibly have an original story without a recognisable IP attached.
I don’t believe sequels like this shouldn’t be made, but this film is worse off for it. We get our classic Nostalgia-bait…
This was good, this was really really good.
The monkey works first and foremost. It brings a dynamic and visual flare to an otherwise stale genre of gritty, grounded story telling.
The film is a lot of fun all the way through with an entertaining, and at times, heartbreakingly-emotionally resonant story of fame and the failure to cope with it (that, granted we’ve seen plenty of times before) but in a never quite seen before fashion. The CGI character lends…
Why are we even doing this anymore?
They’re clearly not enjoying making these and we’re not enjoying watching them.
We’re not getting Marvel movies anymore because there’s an interesting story to tell or because we’re excited to see where our characters go next. We get Marvel movies because there has to be another Marvel movie and there’s IP to use.
This is one of the most cynical instalments yet. Utterly soulless and devoid of any reason to actually exist.
The MCU has truly lost its way and has no idea why it eventually exists anymore.
Extra 1/2 star for the Hulk fight being pretty good.
