Definite inspiration for Midnight Cowboy.
An American breaks the rules and starts a chain of events which results in an immigrant's only choice to survive being to break the rules.
Interesting how until the main character gets the mask after hes been burnt, we mostly view scenes from an over the shoulder shot on him. This creates a link between the audience and protagonist where we almost experience his alienation along with him.
The mask being a facade the protagonist…
