I really enjoyed how they used the first person camera to make scenes feel like snapshots of memories, a moment you're entirely immersed in but don't necessarily have the context for. This was really easy to just slip into and enjoy the atmosphere in the first half with some heart-breaking moments in the second half.

I don't know how much this is on the film and how much is on the musical but I found this hard to buy into emotionally. I wasn't sure whether it was meant to be about animal rights, high school drama or Elphaba's chosen one type story. The songs were okay, I liked dancing through life. The whooshing stomp noise they used was annoying though.

The film's at its best when we're just a background character in Trump's surreal life. It looks amazing, the handheld camera and video tape effects makes it feel like it was ripped straight from history. Sebastian Stan gives a great performance and I think he gets trump better than interpretations more effected by contemporary politics.

It always feels a little like cheating when a musical biopic can be so enjoyable just by using a great musician's songs, but they felt well placed in the film and the performances of them by the cast were very good too. I really enjoyed the performances, particularly Ed Norton and Monica Barbaro. The themes of individual genius vs a musical tradition and artistic fulfilment were woven through the story in a way that didn't feel heavy handed. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did but I've been listening to Dylan and folk music since I saw it.
