    definitely suffers on a rewatch when it becomes more apparent that at least some of this is less scene-recorded virtual doco and more like one of those obviously staged e3 demos. soooo salty i missed out on getting free mubi merch at that acmi screening.

    still heaps of fun; will never stop marvelling at watching people repurpose game mechanics in unintended ways, especially within a sandbox as dense as los santos. sorry to repeat the joke i already made on…

    textureless, pre-digested cinema. i like wim wenders quite a bit, especially in this stripped-back, observational mode, but there's an air of desperation that slowly suffocates this film. it's so terrified of being even the slightest bit unlikeable that it can't help but conceive of its character being anyone but the nicest, gentlest lil guy on earth, with only a wrinkle of genuine humanity devoid of affect hinted at in its last ten minutes.
