    With a new director, I was very pleased to find this still feels like Paddington. It’s not as tightly written and doesn’t hit as hard as Paddington 2 (few movies do), but there’s still plenty of humor, whimsy, and sweetness to go around. I ended up liking it much more than I thought I would, and I can definitely consider it a “canon” Paddington movie, which is something I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to say before I saw it.…

    Fun movie held back by the fact that Pharrell was clearly heavily involved. I don’t even know much about Pharrell’s life to know that much of the conflict in the second half was heavily sanitized and glossed over. Not to mention it’s all resolved by Pharrell basically just staring into the ocean and thinking about Carl Sagan like…not exactly a riveting conclusion.

    Learning afterwards that Chad Hugo, who the movie intentionally or not seems to imply was the real backbone…

    A+ atmosphere, A+ aesthetics. Bill Skarsgard steals the show for me. What a character. Between this and It he’s really solidified himself as the horror icon of our time. Also have to give mad props to Lily Rose Depp for a truly fearless performance. All the performances are great tbh, but those two deserve special mention.

    I do think the psychosexual themes are a little underbaked, but as a vibe movie this is kinda unmatched as far as dark gothic horror…
