    Like many German films, this is afflicted with a bit too much of the dry pathos that comes with tiringly uncommunicative characters, and of course a big sloppy helping of historic relevance needed to get any funding at all.

    Still, VIER MINUTEN is a powerful story about powerful characters, performed by masters of the acting craft, and culminating in a final crescendo that left me speechless.

    Between its iconic lines, its colorful but utterly truthful characters, and its moments of unbridled pathos, APOCALYPSE NOW is an uncanny hybrid of blockbuster entertainment and philosophical cinema. It immerses us in the thick hot air of Vietnam, drags us through mud and blood, and leaves us ultimately stunned by the simple, smothering truths it has pronounced.
