A Real Pain 2024
“My pain is unexceptional, so I don’t feel the need to burden everyone with it”
Though pocketed with moments of poignancy, I felt lukewarm about this one. While compelling visually and narratively, it just felt lacking in a certain depth.
Perhaps they didn’t owe us this though. Maybe our characters didn’t need some grand arc. Maybe this snapshot, this flashing look at their pain and dichotomous nature and complex feelings towards their heritage is enough.
I guess it just didn’t entirely resonate, I bet it did for some.
