Wicked 2024
For what it is, they did a great job. I believe the film would be better if cut down a smidge, (we didnt need a song from Jeff Goldbloom) and then they released a longer special edition.
Broadway to film adaptations sometimes struggle with the songs not fully adding to plot, and taking up a bit too much time and I felt that happened here in some ways.
However I recognize this musical is beloved and from the practical sets, the costuming, the casting and dancing, great care was clearly taken to create this film so I give it a high rating.

Keke Palmer is hilarious and SZA makes the perfect sidekick in this film that perfectly shows off women friendships. This is the type of film that could go very wrong but it stays engaging and funny throughout thanks to a great script and great acting. There are also interesting/funny choices from (DETROIT :') ) Director Lawrence Lamont that enhance the humor, like use of low wide angles, splitscreens, surprise stunts etc. but he still keeps this film grounded in a beautiful place.

3 stars because Keke's performance was excellent in this film. Common also gave a great performance. This film had so much potential but it felt like things wrapped up very quickly making the resolution not feel as it should have.
