Incredibly well-made movie based off the novel by the same name. Questions of what Christian faith is to look like in trying times, especially in the context of persecution. Is faith just being brave enough to accept death instead of renouncing God or can one still have faith after renouncing him to save the lives of themselves and others? The movie portrays the persecution of Christians in Japan during the 1600’s. The persecution scenes were difficult to watch, but they…
At first, I wanted to give a 3/5. But, then I thought about it, and the film delivers on what it offers: classic formula for nostalgic film, 80’s vibes, a simple plot, and real jets. Nicely done.
If you are looking for a movie that inspires and reminds you that there are always people younger out there who are smarter than you and can overcome issues that those living in developed countries generally never experience, this is a move to add to your list. Terrific acting, powerful story about family, how engineering saved a village, and most of all—-it’s a true story. It puts a new value on food, education and the comforts we tend to take for granted. I give this movie 4.5/5 for it’s cinematography, the quality of its story and its delivery.
The roar of an engine; the oneness one feels with the car when speeding down a road; the rush felt when speeding around a bend at a near-death speed—-these are all things I’ll never know because I drive a Hyundai Sonata 2008 that feels like it’s made out of paper machette. I’m sure if I knew more about cars, I’d have enjoyed it more. It’s either more distracting or more enjoyable while watching my wife shred at Mario Kart next to me.
