Conner and I watched this in feminist film class 5 years ago and we both hated it for being pretentious and kind of absurd and not making sense
Happy to report that all of these things are true but dare I say that might be the point (and the beauty!) of this film
fun and over-the-top and quite hilarious at times!
but refuse to accept that this film has anything meaningful to say about… anything?? Mikey Madison is a delight, but it’s crazy to think how little we actually know about the titular Anora at the end of 2.5 hours of this!!
A romp? yes! A statement on feminism/class divide/sex work? Absolutely not!!!
Oscars that this movie should win:
- Best Cinematography
- Most cigarettes ever smoked on-screen
- Worst American accent (sorry Joe)
- Best Adapted Screenplay from a book that doesn’t actually exist
- Most confusing recast of Mother to Daughter
- Best Picture (for the first half)
- Worst Picture (for the last 25 minutes)
