The Night of Counting the Years 1969
this is somehow so modernly transcendental. it paces itself like a villenueve movie with its elegantly orchestrated camera movements and creative blocking that would make even ophüls smile. the groaning mesmerizing score accompanied by slow and steady tracking shots creates some of the most immersive scenes in a movie that i’ve ever experienced. the questions being raised by the film only heighten it’s intensity and mystery, especially with a culture that i am less than familiar with. this is without a doubt a masterpiece that must be seen for the direction alone. here is a truly immaculate film.
