Gritty and raw, showing divorce through a realistic lens away from typical Hollywood representations. Some intense and beautiful scenes that depict the emotional roller-coaster of divorce and the effects it has on both the parents and the child. An early 2000's classic, with denim on denim and bucket hats and a cheesy, romantic plot (in the best way) that surprisingly handles some heavier topics such as domestic violence and abortion.
Charming and nostalgic. The costumes, soundscape and scenery take you back into another time-space, combining with the warm family relationships to leave you yearning for a more authentic present. The constant scribbling of pen to paper and dim candle-lit rooms moves away from modern technology and money-driven capitalist ideas to allow space for reflection of the past and the way that humanity has evolved, calling into question ideas of the self, current values and motives.
