In a fallen world, beautiful things are manipulated for evil purposes. There are amazing parallels between Jiro and Oppenheimer as both characters pursue their scientific/engineering passions even though they know their life’s work will be corrupted. Jiro knows that his dream is cursed but he chooses to pursue it anyways because he has faith deep down that his inventions will produce more beauty than destruction. Nolan presents Oppenheimer’s journey of invention as driven by pride while Miyazaki writes Jiro as a lovable protagonist whose only flaw is his naivety. The visuals and score are unreal as is to be expected with any Ghibli film.

Stunning visuals. Love the surrealist elements and the intricate writing.
