The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar 2023
i don't feel like this was particularly memorable compared to the other wes anderson stuff i've seen but the gags with the sets were so cute. also dev patel is stupid handsome in this. i cheesed throughout nearly every scene with him in it.

Casablanca 1942
saw a review that said that this is another "should've been a throuple" movie and for the first half of the film i was so sure that they meant rick, ilsa and sam. so disappointed it was laszlo instead. did the film just forget about sam? gotta deduct half a star for that.
bawled through multiple scenes, especially the roulette scene and the singing. to think this came out DURING the war... imagine being in that audience for that premiere.…

Designing Woman 1957
either this aged like milk or there's just something so mean spirited about this movie... probably both. the crux of the movie is, as the kids say, "woman works a pink job and man works a blue job." they don't get along because of this. moreso, he hates her gay friend and she hates his disabled friend. hilarity ensues. or not. it all feels so off putting that even the writers were like wait how do we get the couple…

JEREMY STRONG TORE UP THE STAGEEEEEE ken girls NEVER lose
this could've been a lot worse! ali abbasi adds a layer of grime to this movie that works very well. a lot of it is tacky entertainment, but the overarching narrative of evil begets evil is much more compelling than trump's heroic journey. the performances are unbelievable. i do think that if we had two different actors in these roles, this would've been below average. sebastian stan and jeremy strong queened OUT. i wish they had a bit more to work with though. almost feels like a waste of their talents.
