In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love is honestly one of the best shot films I've probably ever seen. Every shot is an art piece and with incredible transitions between scenes baked into many of the scenes. The acting is also stellar in this film with great performances from Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung Chiu-wai. The main thing I wasn't a huge fan of in the film is the ending. It feels a bit confusing and feels like an afterthought too be…

"The Fall Guy" is the definition of a love letter to stunt performers. While the movie at times is a bit generic, it's just a fun movie that provides lots of laughs and smiles. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt both provide performances that make this movie go by so quickly, not to mention all of the action pieces and stunts throughout the movie that I was surprised to later find out were practically done. Overall, while "The Fall Guy" isn't…

Before watching The Grand Budapest Hotel I am sad to say that I had not watched any of West Anderson's movies that he is well known for. But This one didn't disappoint. Right off the bat, you can see the style brimming from this movie, every frame looks like it had care put into it and not a single scene seems lazily put together. While the film is beautiful, it also manages to put together a story that is intriguing…

Howl's Moving Castle is another amazingly crafted movie by Studio Ghibli. Not only does the hand-drawn art style give life to the world, but the color choice sprinkled throughout is extremely pleasant to the eye which I feel many viewers will appreciate. This world feels alive and the characters that we meet throughout the story make us feel like we, the audience, are a part of their journey as we grow to feel for all of them by the end.…

Superman is the first film that has really made me enjoy Superman as a character. Somehow James Gunn manages to make Superman feel human and grand at the same time in a way that is very difficult to pull off. The problem with Superman as a character is he is so incredibly strong that making him relatable can be a tall task at times and in this film they manage to do it by making Superman a hero who just…

Inside Llewyn Davis is a film full of great performances. Its star-studded cast experiences a life that often represents the realities of starting performers. Oscar Isaac gave a great performance, and much of the supporting cast, including Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, and Adam Driver, helped drive this film. This film, unfortunately, is kind of hindered by its ending that just feels pretty poorly executed, but with that being said, there were plenty of laughs, emotional moments, and interesting…

Seconds

Seconds

Seconds is a movie with many complicated ideas trying to be implemented, especially for the time, and on some levels, I feel it succeeded, and for others, not so much. To begin, the cinematography of James Wong Howe is excellent as always, and the amount of unique camera work throughout is stellar. The acting is also excellent in the film, however, I feel like the story gets a bit jumbled throughout, and some scenes go on for a bit too long at times. Overall, I think Seconds is still a good film, but some storytelling decisions hold it back.

The Red Shoes is a film that has aged brilliantly with time. The cinematography was once again done by Jack Cardiff, which is probably some of his best work ever. The use of color and painting throughout the film makes every frame of the film look beautiful and something that could be framed. I believe some of the story elements feel a bit dramatic and over the top, but overall, the story is well crafted, and there are many quotes…

Interstellar is as close to a masterpiece as you can get, and is probably one of my favorite movies of all time after watching this. This movie just does so much right. The visuals are stunning, the sound design is tremendous, and the acting from stars such as Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, and many others leads to some amazing performances. The scriptwriting is stellar, and Christopher Nolan's style is baked throughout the film. Somehow, such a complicated concept…

Deadpool & Wolverine is just plain fun. Seeing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman team up is something that I have been waiting to see for quite a while and this movie takes full advantage of the duo's chemistry. Thankfully even though this is a Disney movie, the jokes were just as good as the first two movies and there are many moments that take advantage of Deadpool being in the MCU now. I will say that this film is brought down…
