This rating surprised me as I am often a fan of Baz Luhrman’s chaotic style. This film moves at such a fast pace, even more so than his other films. It never allows you to settle into it, and the beginning is an over abundance of sensory maximalism. A gorgeous story about girlhood and motherhood. The cinematography was simple and beautiful, the writing was poetic, and the bittersweet characters made the film shine.

I have to be honest. This movie definitely tugged at my nostalgic wolf girl phase so I was bound to love it. On a technical note, however, the animation was absolutely gorgeous. The character models were beautifully sculpted and the backgrounds were amazing, accompanied by effective colourful lighting. I LOVED the creativity behind this movie. The team behind it had to sit down and think, “how do we personify the internet?” and I gotta say, they nailed it. Having small avatars represent the users and little cars transport them to different links was genius. The personification of clickbait and search engines was very effective and now I feel a strange sympathy for spam bots. The story as a whole was good, but nothing revolutionary. For me, the creativity and animation was what won me over.
