So this probably isn’t what I should take away from this movie, but my favorite part of this film was seeing a fairly medically accurate surgery on screen. Everything from equipment to actors. They scrubbed in! They counted sponges! Looked into it and Meg Ryan actually watched cardiothoracic surgeons operate and practiced suturing on pig hearts. Love her in this. Everything else about this movie is bonkers.

Too many people are on here talking about the sex scene featuring Nick Cage reading “Memories” by Nic Cage and not enough talking about the motorcycle water hose scene. For all the flaws of this mad world, Twin Peaks inspired, highly problematic soft core set in working class Alabama, it tells a coherent story and, despite incredible odds, clawed its way to two whole stars in my heart.
