I was hoping I was in for a campy movie to ease into this new "slasher" unit of my scary film education, and that’s exactly what I got!

First movie selection of the horror movie education:
First scene had me on edge for the first half of the whole movie, and I spent the rest of it trying to figure out how the dots connected. Keke Palmer kept me invested, though — she was fantastic. Daniel Kaluuya’s reaction at *the scene* was also great. After taking some time to talk about the movie afterwards, the themes finally clicked for me. Gotta respect Peele’s vision and talent.
Worried it’s just gonna get scarier from here. Pray for me.

Scary Movie #2 of my "Scream Queen" class:
I have to say, I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Meg is a strong protagonist and I was definitely rooting for her. And Brian’s voluminous hair.
I also liked how even in the midst of the more predictable plot points — i.e., blob terrorizes city — the movie found ways to subvert expectations, like having Brian’s "punk-like" distrust of authority become the very thing that saves the town…
