  I think this movie is such a study on the way that grief can transform people into the cruelest parts of themselves.

  Sandra withdraws and hardens in her steadfast mission for “normalcy”. Her grief presents as self-centeredness and callous disregard for vulnerability. Betrayal meeting betrayal. 

  Samuel’s martyrdom ultimately costs him the ability to accept any bridges of self-empowerment or connection. As it eats away at him, the pit in his stomach turns to resentment and jealousy.
