The Velvet Vampire 1971
Seriously terrible acting, C-/D+ script, but earns the stars for the two oddest, most interesting-looking actors I’ve ever seen in a movie (the romantic couple), and the dream sequences, which are ladders to nowhere.

The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail 1945
I found a lot to like about this suspense drama as the heroes, disguised as monks, sneak through enemy lines. I love K’s fascination with socially powerless characters who end up having a huge impact on the narrative; here in his fourth film Ken’ichi Enomoto as the comic, serf/porter seems to prefigure Toshiro Mifune as Kikuchiyo in 7S.
