just quite brutal really. superb in its simplicity in a way. it wasn’t a sprawling epic, which i really enjoyed. very noisy, as nic told us in a lecture.
what if we shitted and farted everywhere

small indie cute fun, but let down quite significantly by jesse eisenberg for me.
keiran culkin was funny and moving throughout, and it felt completely genuine the entire time, while eisenberg was just super stiff. like i get that that's his schtick but just did very little for me especially considering the subject matter. his breakdown in the dinner scene was just bland and dull, where culkin had so much complexity.
anyway not the be all and end all; the esemble cast was brill.
    nice to look at.
    soundtrack was bland.

i wasn’t expecting the level of profundity that herzog brought to this, using timothy treadwell’s story to philosophise on greater truths about humanity and nature.
the silence in this film was also completely precise and effective, with herzog leaving long inserts of treadwell’s footage unaltered, giving a full view into his psyche.
at time incredible harrowing, but also often hopeful and joyous.
want to watch more herzog docs!

good old Paul Thomas Anderson. Making another good film. Isnt he nice. What a chap eh!
Brilliantly easy watching, not at all laborious, which is what cinema should be. Right?
Two quite hateable characters. One more character who you just feel sorry for.
Paul Dano was brilliant. As was Daniel Day-Lewis. I think PTA really gives space for actors to act. He sets the camera down sometimes and just lets them talk at it, which fully delivers in this instance.…
