i wanted to like this film a lot more than i did.
it’s pride month so this should have been a home run, but something about it failed to connect. the idea for the story is good, but the execution fell short for me. it felt disjointed and poorly paced. at times, it was hard to follow - definitely had to engage in some post watch googling to understand.
how many walking montages must we endure? and also why did they pick this grown ass man to portray a high schooler/young adult?
on the whole, i found this film disappointing.
the ANXIETY! this movie really immerses you in the action and takes you along the journey as a group of photojournalists pursue the climax of a civil war. the imagery is both incredible and horrifying. the intensity of this movie really punches you in the face. somehow, Alex Garland manages to both glorify/romanticize war while also conveying the extent of horror and damage. an interesting take. i liked the way the snapshots from the photography were integrated into the movie…
