Though showing the "good," or rather, comfortable side of WWII might seem like glorifying, I don't think this movie does. The long faraway shots are usually at human height, and behind something like a wall or leaf, making it feel more recent, like it could happen right in your hometown. Going into it you know their lifestyle won't last, but it's weird seeing innocent looking kids play with lines of toy soldiers knowing what his father is. Shows the expectations…
