  Like a Lady Gaga music video operating in the tradition of Lindsay Anderson and Alex DeLarge. Infuriatingly inconsistent and constantly contradicting itself. Ultimately, a thought-provoking and inspiring meditation on incel fantasy in the tradition of American Psycho — irresponsible, violence-glamorizing, begging to be misinterpreted. Perverse with a capital P, almost to the point where you’re like, “Okay, I get it.”

  Were it not for Jordan Peele absolutely killing it in the motion-picture game, I do believe Ari Aster would be likely to usher in the future of American horror. His visions are bolder than nearly everyone else's and the outrageousness of his cinematic language is the closest thing we've seen to Kubrick in a long while. That being said, this film and its predecessor HEREDITARY do betray a central shallowness alongside their operatic, unbridled ambitions.

  Fascinating, almost endless, immersive storytelling. This is my favorite kind of movie, I think. Curious to revisit again as I am sure rewatches will bring new and striking perspectives.
