    Before beginning this review I must emphasize that I'm very heavily biased, as I have fond memories of watching this film repeatedly as a child, which is bound to have coloured my current opinion of it. With all that said:

    I didn't mind the slow pace of Arrival, as it felt like the film had a lot of lore and thematic ground to cover which justified the running time.     I'm increasingly starting to get the impression that this generation of film critics will heap critical adulation on any film that makes even the most cursory effort to give off a pseudo-80s vibe. In this case the John Carpenter-isms of the score seemed jarringly out of place, even a little campy. The dialogue is no better than you'd expect of any "dead teenagers" movie.
