The movie has such a refreshing take on love. The main characters actually took the time to find themselves before coming back to each other. I love that they inspire each other to become better versions of themselves, and not just blindly fall in love or make love the entire point of their life. And Penelope doesn't need love or a man to save her, she can save herself by loving who she is. Although this is supposed to be a fairytale romance, I love how modern and realistic it is.

Sex and lust manifest differently in each family member's experience. Some are repressed, some explore it more freely, but it can't be denied that making love is one of the most basic needs of human being. The film also has a great portrayal of an Asian family's dynamic, within which members sacrifice their own dreams for each other, and I can't help but draw some similarities with my own family.

I love the setting, and the story is tight, but the second act is dragging, as we're not clear on the man's motive until close to the end, and there's no real threat, as the audience can see that he's clueless, so there's no tension. Jason Segel's character feels annoying, judgmental, and it turns out I empathize a lot more with the husband, as he might be the only one…

Didn't like the first half, as the script from the first movie made them insufferable, and I think they deserved having a rocky relationship for doing Rose dirty. Wing is too naive, and her sole purpose is loving Sam and doing everything to make him happy, which is not an encouraging message to deliver, especially when I can't feel the chemistry between them, and I feel like their love isn't that deep (like when Sam reminisce about their happy time…
